The town of Rastatt? Never heard of it!

Rastatt's pedestrian zone

You may be right, but you don't know what you have missed!

Rastatt is situated in the south of Germany in the Rhine valley between the Black Forest and the French border. It is a small town of about 45,000 inhabitants where you can still experience the genuine German way of life.

Historic Rastatt

In the 18th century Rastatt was the residence of Count Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden whose splendid palace can still be admired today. It was modelled on Versailles as well as a lot of the well-preserved municipal buildings and gardens in the historic town center.

Rastatt was also the place where the German revolution of 1848/1849 was terminated by Prussian troops. The beliefs of these ancient revolutionaries now make up the basics of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany.

But Rastatt is not only history. It's also the town where Germany's largest street theatre festival takes place and the production site of Mercedes-Benz's A and B models.

If you want to get to know more of Rastatt's splendid surroundings, you've got the choice: the gorgeous mountains and valleys of the famous Black Forest are just a couple of miles away as well as the charming vinyards of the German Wine Street with their old villages, inviting wine taverns and annual wine festivals.

Horse race in Iffezheim

Or do you want to have more action? Baden-Baden, the European Summer Capital of the 19th century, is just 10 miles away.

There you can enjoy yourself in Germany's oldest and most beautiful casino or try your luck at the horse races in Iffezheim, Germany's only representative at the prestigious Emirates World Series Racing Championship. And if you just want to relax, Baden-Baden sports numerous great spas with thermal water.

Daytrips to famous historical cities are also within reach - Heidelberg, Freiburg and Strasbourg (France) are situated within a radius of max. one hour by car or train.

Last but not least - the Rhine valley is Germany's warmest region. In summer temperatures are usually between 25 C and 35 C (77 - 95 F) and rain is scarce. And if you really have to cool down, there are also plenty of small lakes around.

Unfortunately we can't guarantee the wheather, but we are sure that you will enjoy your stay in this lovely region and bring home a new language as a souvenir!
